More! More! More!!!

When is the pursuit of more too much?

In the world of systems and automation, we often find ourselves caught up in the pursuit of optimization. We are continuously on the lookout for the perfect system, the flawless amount of more. This relentless quest can sometimes be more draining than empowering.

Yet, it's crucial to ask ourselves: “When is done better than perfect?”

The online world seems to be obsessed with perfection - perfect systems, ultimate efficiency, and an attitude of “more, better, faster!” But isn't this a cycle that's a bit too relentless and demanding? Isn't it time we embraced the beauty of 'done' over 'perfect'?

Don't get me wrong, I understand the allure of perfection. I've spent over two decades refining systems, enhancing tools, chasing more. The sense of accomplishment when a system works flawlessly is undeniable.

This reminds me of a scene from a galaxy far, far away. There's a scene in Star Wars where Kylo Ren, in a fury of ambition and frustration, yells "More!" over and over again. This act, driven by his insatiable hunger for power, is all too familiar.

Just as Kylo Ren relentlessly demands "more," I too can find myself ensnared in a similar cycle when it comes to pursuits. We might unknowingly echo Kylo's cry for "more" - more perfection, more optimization, more efficiency.

This relentless quest for perfection often mirrors Kylo's destructive spree - it can create upheaval in our lives and skew our what we really want out of life.

The problem is more satisfying? Definitely. Is it gratifying? Up to a point. But there's more to life than the constant pursuit of "perfect". To let "more" rule us is an exhausting endeavor.

I propose a new way of thinking. A belief in constructing our systems first - implementing a functional system that may not be perfect but gets the job done. And from there, refining and improving it to better fit our lifestyles. Not the other way around.

Our lives shouldn't revolve around more. Systems should revolve around improving our lives.

Instead of asking "How perfect can we get?", the question should be "What kind of life do we want to live?" Magic happens when we shift our focus from perfection to progress.

'Perfect' might not be as necessary as we think. We're conditioned to believe that "perfect" is synonymous with "better". But often, it's just synonymous with more stress, less time, and more sacrifices.

Isn't it time we defined our 'done'?

Perhaps 'done' is implementing a system you enjoy working on, serving customers who truly appreciate your product, and having time to spend with your loved ones.

So today, I challenge you to redefine your notion of 'done'.

Because your existence isn't a quest for perfection.

Take it from me - there's profound contentment that comes with having a functioning system, even if it's not perfect. It fits perfectly within the design of your life, without the constant, draining quest for flawless performance.

Isn't that a beautiful idea?

I hope you’ll consider it.

After all, when is done better than perfect?

Today's action steps:

Reflect on your values and aspirations:

Spend some quiet time alone without distractions. Write down your personal values, aspirations, and what makes you feel content and fulfilled. This could include time with family, pursuing a hobby, or simply enjoying some leisure time. The goal is to identify what truly matters to you.

Identify your system goals:

Reflect on your systems and automation tools. What are they designed to do? What impact do they have? Who benefits from them? How do they align with your personal values?

Evaluate your current situation:

Assess your current status. Are you spending too much time perfecting your systems at the cost of personal contentment and fulfillment? Are you incessantly striving for the perfect system even when it's causing stress and taking you away from what you value most?

Define your 'done':

Lastly, define what 'done' means to you. When the economy puts more pressure on you this is a perfect time to reflect on what is it that you truly want out of life. It could be a specific level of efficiency, a set amount of income, or a specific impact you're trying to create. This will give you a clear idea of when to stop pushing for more and start relishing the results of your work.!

Until next week
